CAS-ology | Nautical Challenge

I mentioned in my previous post that I was playing along with some card challenges to get the creative juices flowing and here is a card inspired by the Nautical theme over at the CAS-ology Blog.

I decided to do some watercolouring with Distress Inks to create a softer colour palette than I usually use.  I also stamped in Versafine Sepia Ink instead of my usual black, and I heat embossed it with clear embossing powder.  The stamps were from Stampin' Up, the wood veneer anchor from Studio Calico and the tag die from Sizzix/Tim Holtz.

B is for Boat | Challenge Entry

I was in a bit of a creative slump this week so I thought I'd play along with some card challenges and see if I could try something different to kick-start my mojo.

I found this sketch at Just Add Ink.....

....and this colour combo and inspiration photo at The Color Throwdown.....

I knew I had some patterned papers from Stampin' Up that would suit the color challenge and I decided to also set myself a challenge to not do any stamping.  I failed in that I DID stamp inside the card, but I did manage to keep the front stamp-free!

I used some little wooden alpha stamps to stamp inside the card......

"Have Fun Ok!" | Scrappy Canary May "Sweet Treat" Scrapbook Kit

Today I'm sharing another layout using the May "Sweet Treat" Scrapbook Kit. It's a 8.5"x11" page and features two 3x4 photos.  I made two tags from patterned paper to form a sort-of grid design.

If you are from Western Australia you might recognise this famous ex-footballer in the top photo ;-)

As is my usual "thang", I made a few little embellishment clusters and although the chipboard sticker pack has a birthday party vibe, they are very adaptable to use on all sorts of layouts.

I die-cut some paper scraps to make these arrow-shaped pieces.  I also used some of the puffy star stickers I had leftover from a previous kit.

The gold foil on these chippy stickers is gorgeous and the geometrical shapes ensure they work well on boy layouts too.

Project Life Weeks 22 & 23

We have had some wet and dreary weather lately- perfect for catching up on Project Life!  For Weeks 22 and 23 I used the Seafoam Edition and both weeks were low on photos so they were both single-page layouts that face each other in my album.

Here is Week 22.....

I added a "This Week" digital brush from Ali Edwards and a feather die-cut.

Here is Week 23.....

I used some of the Seafoam digital papers to create journalling strips for two of my photos.

Seafoam continues to be one of my fave Project Life collections- I love it's pared-back look and the colour palette suits any story you want to tell.

"Beautiful Day" | Scrappy Canary May "Sweet Treat" Scrapbook Kit

I'm back with another layout share using the May Scrapbook Kit.  It's my usual (lately) 8.5"x11" format and I have a small photo grid about 4"x4" in size.

I cut the camera out from one of the patterned papers and layered a glittered gold heart on top and I also cut the "Lovely Day" from the strip on one of the other papers.

I used a Tim Holtz die to make this rosette from the mint spotted paper and layered one of the gold chipboard pieces on top for my title.

These Dear Lizzy bobby pins in the kit are so adorable!

"Hello Movie Date" | Scrappy Canary May "Sweet Treat" Scrapbook Kit

I'm back with another layout using the May "Sweet Treat" Scrapbook Kit. This time I'm back to a 12x12 format and have used a simple grid design for my two landscape-oriented 4x3 photos.

I just love all the gold foil products in the kit and I made two large clusters and one small cluster to direct the viewer's eyes around the page.

I layered some of the chipboard stickers to create this little grouping.

"Life is Wonderful" | Scrappy Canary May "Sweet Treat" Scrapbook Kit

Today I'm sharing a layout using the May "Sweet Treat" Scrapbook Kit.  It's an 8.5"x11" layout oriented horizontally.  I took one of the patterned papers and cut apart the square that said "Life is..." and then added one of the chipboard pieces to create my title.

I used the gold glitter chipboard hearts and foam glitter hearts around my page, as well as some of the puffy stickers I had leftover from last month's kit.

I added a manila tag, a label and some twine from my stash and machine stitched for some added texture.

Feeling Sketchy | Sketch #123

We have a new sketch to play with at the Feeling Sketchy Challenge Blog and our challenge sponsor is Kenny K.

Digi and rubber stamps from KennyK are a fun and edgy way to add the perfect dose of attitude and style to all of your creations!  The creator, the artist, the man: Kenny Kiernan (aka "KennyK"or the "Scranton Art Guy") wielded a mean crayon during his formative years in the Bronx, developing his signature funky-but-slick, urban-influenced style - and over the years has completed countless assignments for many of the biggest ad agencies and corporate clients in the business. His work runs the gamut from big-budget advertising campaigns and promotions, editorial illustration, toy/game and product packaging, to sexy pinup babes, anime and retro character designs, comic books, computer games, t-shirt and sticker designs and Flash animation - all that fun stuff!  I’m ElenaK, the woman behind the man, and the feminine touch of KennyKDownloads.com. I have been producing events for over 6 years in NYC and am an entrepreneur and a crafter at heart!  Kenny and I had been searching for the perfect collaborative project to combine our respective skill sets since we got married; we are now making it happen with KennyKdownloads.com and having a blast!

Here's Sketch #123.....

I used an image from Kenny K, papers from Kaisercraft's "Shine Bright" Collection, a cut file from the Silhouette Design Store and my Copic Markers to create this motivational card.

I added some Clear Wink of Stella marker for some subtle shimmer on the girl image and on the heart.

Be sure to head over to the Feeling Sketchy Blog for more inspiration and all the challenge details.

Scrappy Canary | May "Sweet Treat" Scrapbook Kit

I'm back with another layout share using the May "Sweet Treat" Scrapbook Kit.  I challenged myself to use a pink/red/grey/gold colour palette- colours that I would normally never use together- and I also decided to try a 12x12 page which is not my preferred format.  As well as all that, I was scrapping a photo of my littlest boy!

My colour scheme was derived from this XOXO chipboard piece....

I used a die to create a tab from red paper and gold embossed the date.

I added a couple of pink and gold labels I had leftover from a previous kit and layered chipboard elements from this month's kit on top.

My title came from one of the cut-apart cards on one of the patterned papers, and to this I added a gold glitter heart from the kit and sequins from my stash.

Some machine stitching and red ink splats were the final touches.  I don't know that I will rush to revisit this colour scheme but it was fun to step out of my comfort zone for this layout.

Scrappy Canary | May "Sweet Treat" Scrapbook Kit

Today I'm sharing a layout using the May "Sweet Treat" Scrapbook Kit. I had this photo of my boys sitting by the river and it was full of autumn colours.  This month's kit has some gold, kraft, orange, red and green in it so I pulled out all the supplies that I thought would suit.  As is usual for me, this layout is 8.5"x11".

I combined the foam glitter "hello" with the gold foil Thickers to create my title.

I used a die to create a tab from red patterned paper in the kit.

I scattered some hearts around the page as well as sequins from my stash.

Some flicks of black ink tied in the black print on some of the chipboard pieces.

Project Life Week 21

I finally completed Week 21- usually I select photos, edit them, create my cards, print and slip into pockets all in one sitting, but this week I had to attack things in small chunks.  I have used the Polka Dot Party Mini Kit this week and it suited my outdoorsy photos very well.  It's a double page layout so I had space to include some screen shots from my husband's Facebook as well as what I've been watching and reading.

Here is the LHS.....

Here is the RHS.....

And here is the entire week.....

I've been asked a few times lately why I use "Design A" every week, and the answer is simple- if I use the same format each week, putting it all together is a no-brainer.  I know that I need to print six 6x4's (either full 6x4 or comprised of two 3x4) per page and that I only need to crop photos to either 6x4 or 3x4.  Simple = quick!

Scrappy Canary | April "Mayfair" Scrapbook Kit Layout

I'm back with another layout share using the April "Mayfair" Scrapbook Kit.  It's an 8.5"x11" page featuring four photos.  With so many photos, it is important to keep the design simple, so I simply used patterned paper, a piece from the cut-apart sheet as my title and three clusters of small star embellishments.  I also used a label from the free printable sheet that Manda designed for our newsletter subscribers.

I love to use text from these cards for titles and this, although probably designed for a party theme, was perfect for my page.

I used the cork stars and puffy stickers from the kit and added star sequins from my stash.

And of course I couldn't resist adding stitching for subtle texture and to hold everything securely.
